Easter Egg Fun

So, we did the annual City Easter Egg Hunt in Hurricane for the very first year & decided we don't like our own city egg hunt. So, we probably won't do that again. It was a big free-for-all that was over in seconds and I had to split the kids up which was difficult since Daniel was busy parking the car. I was so nervous one of my kids would get lost. We headed into Washington just after the egg hunt for errands & happened to end up going by the Washington Park just before their city egg hunt was to begin so we decided to try it one more time. This was such a smaller scale and much better. The kids had more fun here. And a bucket load of candy always makes them happy. Easter day we decided not to do another easter egg candy hunt since we already had our fill on Saturday. So, we colored hard-boiled eggs with markers and had a contest to see which was the best. Daniel's (bottom left) was awesome as expected. And, Ash had some cool saturn-like looking eggs.

I LOVE SPRING!

April/May is my favorite time of the year. The trees that have looked dead for many months suddenly spring to life and beautiful blossoms burst almost overnight. Here a few pics of some of the beauties I saw the other day and just couldn't resist sharing them on my blog. The first is a branch from our oversized and ever-spreading "Yellow Banks Rose" bush. Good thing we placed this sucker somewhere where it can just grow itself crazy.

The second shot is from one of our trellis-climbing trumpet vines. Funny, the other vines are doing well but have yet to produce any flowers. This one, however, is flowering all over the place. And 3rd is some of the pretty purple flowers we planted last year that have come back in splendid form this year. Yeah, for spring!

Happy Mother's Day

We love our Grandma Nebeker. She is the best and we sure miss her. We hope she is having fun and being safe in Africa. But most of all we hope she gets home soon to play games and watch shows with us. Happy Grand-Mother's Day!!!!

A Princess Birthday!!!

Ashlynn is everything princess and pink! So, I whipped together this barbie doll cake. Of course, Ashlynn also got a horse-drawn carriage to drive her doll around in ($3.00 from DI...gotta love & take advangtage of the cheap gifts when they are young). We played at the St. George splash park a few hours that day and then had pizza at the park. The kids loved it & we were mighty tuckered out at the end of the day! Man, the barbie cake's dress was huge....we have cake coming out of our ears!

Strawberries!!!

This is our first meager harvest of berries from our garden. It was pretty exciting to get something. Our garden is actually looking pretty good for the first time ever. Of course we eat them as soon as they are picked but that is what they are for, right?

Statue of Liberty

Payton had to do a report on an American landmark in his 1st grade class. The teacher didn't want parents there because the kids had to stand up and do it all themselves. So we prepared some thoughts on the Statue of Liberty and Payton made this crown & torch to wear. The teacher told me he did a fantastic job & wished she had video taped it! He is such a smartie-pants!!!

2008 Christmas Apron Exchange

Instead of the normal gift exchange we do each Christmas, my sister Charise had the idea to design aprons for each other. They were supposed to be tailored to the tastes/ personality of the person. So, Steve made M&D safari themed dish towels since Mom didn't want an apron, Shauna made Reese a family & temple themed apron, I made Chantel an Hungarian apron (where she served her mission), Charise made Shelley a patchwork blue apron, Chantel made Steve a clawed masculine apron, Shelley made Shauna a travel themed apron and Mom made me a family themed apron. All-in-all I thought they turned out pretty good. Shelley won the contest. What should we do next year I wonder????

This is me frantically trying to finish my apron before Chantel arrives from the airport. Just made it. It says "Are you Hungary?" Then, underneath the pepper pockets, it says "Jo etvagyatt" which is bon apetit in Hungarian. I thought it was rather clever. But, after I had designed it, I found out Chantel was pregnant. If I had known beforehand, then I would have done one that said "I've got a bun in the oven!" :)
